He is very active as a musical director and pianist in the Los Angeles area. His work includes musical direction of Dale Kristien/Bill Hutton Xmas Show, Blame It On the Movies at the La Mirada Playhouse, Falsettos at the St. Genesius Theatre, and Olympus On My Mind at the Odyssey Theater. As a musical theater composer, Mr. Berent’s scores include As Time Crawls By, premiered in Moorpark CA, Cheering Up a Princess, an opera for children’s audiences premiered by Michigan Opera Theater, and Holiday Cabaret, a Christmas musical premiered by the Attic Theater in Detroit. His musical, Daughter of Beijing, which concerns a family in China living through the Tienanmen Square uprising, was presented at the Disney/ASCAP Music Theater Workshop hosted by Stephen Schwartz. Mr. Berent has also written
extensively for dance and dramatic theater, and works as an arranger and
composer of music utilizing computer and synthesizer technology. He is
a staff accompanist at UCLA and Santa Monica College, and is musical director
of the Unity Church of Hollywood.
