THE LARAMIE PROJECTand the members of Tectonic Theater Project RAISED

“I will trust if you write a play of this, that you say it right…”- Father Roger Schmit
July 9th, 2002…Burbank, CA…The Colony Theatre Company is very proud to announce that its first production as an Equity theatre, the Los Angeles premiere of The Laramie Project written by Moisés Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project has raised, from the generosity of its audiences, $15,186.69 to benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation. The members of the company were so moved by the work that they had done on the production they decided collectively that they wanted to somehow make a difference. Beginning with the first preview of this production, during the curtain call, company members had invited audiences to share with them their experience of the play immediately following each performance and asked that if anyone feel so inclined to donate some spare change or a dollar, 100% of the money collected would be donated to the Matthew Shepard Foundation which is headed by Matthew’s mother Judy Shepard. At its final performance on Saturday, July 6th, two members from the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Christopher Maluck (who was one of the real-life angels in Angel Action and who flew in from Wyoming to be there) and General Counsel Tristan Higgans - Goodall watched the performance and accepted the check during the curtain call in which they read to the cast, crew and audience assembled, a moving and thoughtful letter from Judy Shepard herself. Barbara Beckley, Producing Director of the Colony Theatre comments, “There could be no better or more gratifying way to end our first production as an Equity theatre than to have been able, through the generosity of our audiences, to present to the Matthew Shepard Foundation a check for over $15,000.00! This show has been a landmark production for our theatre and to be able to give something back in such a concrete way is thrilling. Additionally, for the Foundation to fly out from Wyoming for our final performance and to bring with them such a beautiful letter from Judy Shepard herself, meant the world to our cast and everyone involved in this production. This was a true honor.” For more information or for
