LOCK THE DOORS…HE’S COMING!!!
May 14, 2003…Burbank, CA…The Colony Theatre Company presents the first production of its 2003 – 2004 season, the hilarious comedy THE NERD, written by Larry Shue and starring French Stewart (3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN). THE NERD will be directed by acclaimed director David Rose (FUDDY MEERS, BIG BEAR). THE NERD will open on Saturday, June 7th and continue through Sunday, July 6th at the Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) in the heart of the Burbank Media Center.
How do you get a total nut-job out of your life, even though he saved it? French Stewart (3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN) will star in the title role as THE NERD. Although he never met the man who saved his life, Willum Cubbert, an ex-G.I. vowed that the welcome mat would always be out for the unsung hero. But joy takes a U-turn when his faceless rescuer shows up unexpectedly one day – and turns out to be an uproariously bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tact, as well as being the dreaded “Guest Who Would Never Leave”!
Barbara Beckley, Producing Director of the Colony Theatre comments, “It is with great joy and excitement that we open our 2003-2004 season and our second year as an Equity theatre with this wildy funny play. Larry Shue has written a terrific comedy of manners gone awry and to have French Stewart play the title role in this production is a producer’s dream come true. Our subscribers and audiences are in for a hilarious ride and it’s a wonderful way to start the summer and our season!”
French Stewart is best known as Harry Solomon on the hit television series THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN. Other television credits for Mr. Stewart include memorable appearances on SEINFELD, THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, JUST SHOOT ME, and ALLY McBEAL. He has appeared in the feature films LEAVING LAS VEGAS, DICK, STARGATE and cult favorite LOVE STINKS. Los Angeles theatre audiences will remember French from the Cast theatre’s critically acclaimed productions of Justin Tanner’s ZOMBIE ATTACK, PARTY MIX, INTERVENTION, and POT MOM for which he won an L.A. Weekly award. This will be French Stewart’s first appearance on the Colony stage.
David Rose has directed some of the Colony Theatre’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions including its most recent productions of FUDDY MEERS and the world premiere of BEA[U]TIFUL IN THE EXTREME. Other shows include: OUR COUNTRY’S GOOD, (6 Ovation Nominations, Drama-Logue Award), THE FRONT PAGE (L.A. Weekly Award – Revival Production of the Year), YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU (Drama-Logue Award) and PECCADILLO (Drama-Logue Award), among others.
