Volunteering at The Colony

Volunteer!
Become a Member of The Colony Associates

The Colony Associates are volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life who help us run the theatre and produce our shows. You can tell us all about yourself and tells us your interest with our on-line volunteer sign-up form, or you contact our volunteer coordinator directly by calling 818-558-7000, ext 547.

We always need at least six ushers for every show, so sign up today!

But there are lots of other opportunities including: house managing, ushering, running lights, running sound, running props, building sets, painting sets, hanging lights, sewing costumes, stuffing envelopes, etc., etc., etc. (If you have a skill, there is some way to use it at The Colony - and to have fun doing it!). We included some descriptions below.

Our volunteers are very much part of our family, and we couldn't survive without them. No experience is necessary - just a desire to be part of the theatre and a willingness for some hard work and a passion for the theatre!

Young people are especially welcome, as long as they have transportation to and from the theatre. Your school may give you some sort of credit for the time you spend helping out at the theatre. (A number of our Associates have gone on to careers in professional theatre - directly as a result of their experience at The Colony.)

Typical Volunteer Work (but there's always more than we can think of!):

Ushers

Volunteers (high school and up, please) make up the core of our Ushering Team at The Colony. Upon arrival, they are given an introduction and brief training session by the House Manager in charge. Ushers are always invited to watch the show. While we can't guarantee seats, ushers are welcome to sit in any seats approved by the House Manager. In the event of a sell-out, there is standing room behind the center section (with a ledge to lean on!) The Colony has performances on Thursdays & Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 3PM & 8PM, and Sundays at 2PM & 7PM. During a show's run, there are 5 performances each week, and the actual performance schedule varies from week to week depending on where we are in the overall run of the production. For each production, we also do three preview performances on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8PM the week we open. Our entire season play dates are listed here.
