MICHAEL C. SMITH (Scenic
Designer,
Travels With My Aunt,
Candida). Michael spent 18 years in New
York City where he was involved in theatre,
opera, film, and television. He was production designer for the film
In
the
Spirit for Castle Hill and on the production teams that
created
Radio
Days and
Big.
His regional theatre work includes nine seasons with
the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, as well as four seasons with Portland
Center
Stage, New Mexico Repertory, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and Denver
Theatre
Center.
His work has been seen around the country in productions at Indiana
Rep, Milwaukee Rep, Alliance Theatre Company, Children’s Theatre
Company of
Minneapolis, Buffalo Studio Arena, Portland Stage Company, Walnut
Street
Theatre in Philadelphia, Pasadena Playhouse, and eight shows at Main
Street
Theatre at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga.
In southern California, he has
spent four seasons at South Coast Repertory, receiving two Drama-Logues
for his
designs for
Arms and the Man and
A Mess
of Plays by Christopher
Durang. He is also proud to be a resident artist at the
acclaimed A Noise
Within classical theatre company in Glendale. For that company, Michael
has
designed 36 shows in the last thirteen years. He is on the design
faculty in
the School of Theatre at Cal Arts, and in his spare time, he trains as
an
amateur boxer.
